Starting a Company: The Qualities Necessary to Be Successful 07/01/18

When it comes to starting up a company and having a great start up team, there are three critical roles and personalities that I feel need to be part of your team in order have the best chance for success. First off you need someone who is a Visionary. The visionary has the future in mind. This person has the ideas and helps put the team together to make those ideas a reality. The second role that is key, is the person who knows the market in and out. I like to call this position, the market maker. The market maker is someone who k understands sales and the proper way to get your product into the paying customers hands. This role has the knowledge to take any of the visionaries ideas and package them in such a way, anyone will buy them.  Finally every team needs the Builder. After the visionary comes up with the idea, and the market maker reaches the customers with the idea, finally we have to make it all look good. he builder enables all of this, making sure the company has enough structure to succeed but not so much that it gets strangled.

The CEO is one of the most important positions of the company. The CEO is the person who keeps everything running. It all starts with them. On top of the basic skills needed to manage and run a company, like a good understanding of money, good people skills, and being able to innovate some great ideas there are also lots of other skills a CEO needs to succeed.

  1. Ability to learn from the past: In order to be a good and successful leader you have to be able to take things that happened in the past and learn from them. If something bad happens instead of losing focus and giving up they have to learn from it and move forward.

  2. Skill in Building Relationship:  For a company to run smoothly each and every department has to move as one unit. For that to happen the CEO has to develop a relationship with all of their departments. The employees have to trust that he will do what’s best for the company and what’s best for the employees.

  3. Coaching Skills. A CEO needs to know how to coach and discipline employees correctly. In order to encourage good behavior and work ethic employees need to be coached properly. When discipling an employee, the employee should know that you are on their side but what they are doing wrong is unacceptable. If necessary you also have to be able to issue punishments accordingly.

  4. Adaptive Management. The final thing that I think a CEO needs to succeed is to be able to adapt their management style. Not every employee is the same, not every department is the same. In order to be successful you have to understand and be able to switch up management styles based off the specific situation.

All of these traits are just scratching the surface of what a CEO needs to be able to do in order to be successful.
